Welcoming Everyone

This is Transfiguration Sunday. The congregation of the church of Saint Andrew and Saint David will be meeting at SASD for their annual general meeting. There will be a service at SASD led by Rev. Mary Wannamaker. The congregation of Centenary-Queen Square will be meeting at CQS. Services here will be led by Don.

Scripture readings today will be
2 Kings2:1-12
Psalm 50
2 Corinthians 4:3-6
Mark 9:2-9

“Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one on earth could bleach them. And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses who were talking with Jesus. then Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” He did not know what to say, for they were terrified. Then a cloud overshadowed them and from the cloud there came a voice, “This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him!” Suddenly when they looked around they saw no one with them any more, but only Jesus.

We send our condolences to Ellen Flemming, whose mother Lois Forrest passed away last Sunday. There was no visitation, but a memorial is scheduled at Portland United Church on Friday, February 17th at 11 A.M.

Post edited on Feb 17, 2012. In the quotation from Mark the word Rabbi was originally mis-spelled with a t on the end… Rabbit! Many thanks to Don U. for bringing this to my attention

This is the sixth Sunday after Epiphany. The two congregations of the Church of Saint Andrew and Saint David and Centenary-Queen Square United Church are gathering at Centenary-Queen Square to Worship. Services will be led by Don.

After the services Centenary-Queen Square will be holding their Annual General Meeting. (Saint Andrew and Saint David are holding theirs next week at SASD.) If you are going to stay for the meeting bring a bag lunch as we are expecting to run into lunch time.

Scripture readings will be done by Peter Jollymore:

2 Kings 5:1-14
Psalm 30
1 Corinthians 9:24-27
Mark 1:40-45

“A leper came to him begging him, and kneeling he said to him, “If you choose, you can make me clean.” Moved with pity, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, and said to him, “I do choose. Be made clean!” Immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. After sternly warning him he sent him away at once saying to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.” But he went out and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread the word, so that Jesus could no longer go into a town openly, but stayed out in the country; and people came to him from every quarter.

This is the Fourth Sunday after Epiphany. The congregations of Centenary-Queen Square United Church and the Church of Saint Andrew and Saint David will be meeting at CQSU to worship and celebrate communion. Services will be led by Don.

In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed. And Simon and his companions hunted for him. When they found him, they said to him, “Everyone is searching for you.” He answered, “Let us go on to the neighboring towns, so that I may proclaim the message there also; for that is what I came out to do.”

“They went to Capernaum; and when the sabbath came, he entered the synagogue and taught. They were astounded at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
Just then there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, and he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.”
But Jesus rebuked him saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.
They were all amazed, and they kept on asking one another, “What is this? A new teaching – with authority! he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him”

“As Jesus passed along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the sea – for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me and I will make you fish for the people.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him.”
